description
The optical attenuator is used to flexibly control the power of the optical signal in the test device. Its main application is to determine the sensitivity of the optical receiver by measuring the change in BER with the power of the input signal. The N7766A and N7768A provide two or four attenuator channels for multimode fiber devices and 50 μm or 62.5 μm fiber ports, respectively. By monitoring the output power, accurate and stable power settings can be achieved at any input power. Using a convenient biasing parameter, the set power can be matched to the signal after the other optical components in the test device path.
